This natural reserve covers 6000 km2 of flooded forest. The dark water rivers form aquatic ways which feed the lagoons. The reserve is home of several impressive animals such as manatees, anacondas, pink dolphins, tapirs and monkeys. Most visitors enjoy the area during the rainy season between March and September.
Usually the arrival to the Reserve is organized by booking a tour in Quito. Though tours can also be arranged in Nueva Loja (Coca).
From Nueva Loja it is necessary to travel several hours by land to take a motorized boat into the reserve.
